Holip Frequency Converter Helps Lomon with Green, Efficient and Energy-saving Production

Abstract: Holip frequency converter was chosen by Lomon to help with its energy saving reconstruction and green production. Holip has supplied more than 1000 frequency converters, with power ranging from 1.5kW to 315kW, and thus plays an important role in Lomon’s energy saving reconstruction project.

Lomon is a listed company engaging in the comprehensive exploitation and application of phosphorus chemicals, titanium chemicals, biochemical engineering and vanadium titano-magnetite. Sichuan Lomon Titanium Industry Co., Ltd. is a holding company of Sichuan Lomon Corporation. It is a large professional company undertaking selection of vanadium titano-magnetite and the research, production and sales of high-grade rutile titanium dioxide. Currently, it is the largest manufacturer of a wide variety of special-purpose titanium dioxide in China with annual rutile titanium dioxide capacity of 300,000 tons. 

In the technical renovation project of 200,000 tons/year titanium dioxide device, 26 Holip HLP-A100 220 kW frequency converters are successfully applied in 26 sand mill stations  and have been accredited by the customer as  realizing precision and stable control and slashing energy consumption and equipment costs.

 

 

During the production of titanium dioxide, sand mill that is used for the post-processing of titanium dioxide plays a key role since it can further grind the accumulating particles, agglomerating particles and flocculating particles generated during the last process to avoid particles from accumulating in the post-treatment enveloping to secure stable product quality. Therefore, the operation of the sand mill determines the quality of the product. Furthermore, whether or not the drive system, as the control center of sand mill, can function steadily is an important indicator of the success in renovating the sand mill with a frequency converter.

Before the technical innovation, the sand mill had a power of 315kW and was started by star-delta with a running current of up to 450 – 600A. The simple power frequency control could easily over-grind the materials, lower the efficiency of grinding and increase power dissipation per product; a strong starting current could cause great impact on the equipment and grid, raise the maintenance cost of the sand mill and waste a marveling amount of power. These were bound to cause necessary troubles and serious waste of resources to Lomon and hinder its production expansion and development.

A renovation was imperative. To ensure that the project is a success, our Holip technical team went to the site for technical exploration and tests, communicated with the customer on every technical detail and key point and devised a preliminary test scheme. Wang Chao, sales executive, said, “The on-site test showed that the current needn’t have been as high as required, therefore, there was a huge potential for energy saving. We proposed a test by controlling the 200kW electric machine with a 200kW HLP-A100 series frequency converter.” The power dropped by 30% as the electric machine changed from 315kW to 220kW. Could the sand mill work steadily when driven by such small power? The customer doubted it but the Holip technician team was confident and was sure about the success. 

The test found that the sand mill worked steadily when 200kW electric machine was paired with 200kW HLP-A100 frequency converter and the working current was reduced to 280-400A. The renovation saved power by more than 20% while totally realizing the soft start of the electric machine and equipment. The lowered starting currency has mitigated the impact of the current on the equipment and grid, prolonged the service life of the sand mill and cut the cost of maintenance. By now, the renovated equipment has been operating steadily for more than a year, not only saving production cost for the plant but also considerably lessening the labor intensity of maintenance personnel and operators.

As a national technical innovation demonstration enterprise, Lomon plays the role of a forerunner in the industry in terms of technical innovation and efficient production. Previously, it used the converters of international brands like Siemens and Schneider because of its stringent requirements for the quality of equipment applied during the promotion of technical renovation. However, international brands are expensive and lag in services, which is why Lomon began to turn to high-quality and more economical domestic brands. Holip lives up to expectations and has gradually replaced international frequency converters and shouldered the burden of renovating the drive system in the project. From the precision control of low-power frequency converters to the revolution of high-power products, Holip products’ part in the project renovation of Lomon is becoming bigger and bigger.

By now, Holip has supplied more than 1,000 frequency converters to Lomon in total, which include such series as HLP-A, HLP-P, HLP-B, HLP-A100 and HLP-SP110 with power ranging from 1.5kW to 315kW. They have been applied to a number of technical renovation projects in Lomon Corporation including 200,000 tons/year titanium dioxide device technical renovation project of Sichuan Lomon, 100,000 tons/year titanium dioxide project (multiple sections) of Xiangyang Lomon, 400 KT/A vitriol production project by blending combustion of vitriol and ferrous (red slag filter pressing section), 800,000 tons compound fertilizer 2 * 50,000 tons compound fertilizer project, sulphur – phosphorus – titanium circular economy cleaner production support technical renovation project (multiple sections), and post-processing section of  30,000 tons/year high-grade industrial paint titanium dioxide project.
